What I Did This Summer

Well it’s been several months…but I have a good reason. I will be as brief as possible. We took the summer off from cruising. We hadn’t planned to but some technical

difficulties with the refrigeration unit on the boat inspired us to rethink our summer plans. Let me start from the end or maybe the beginning. We went up to the states for a few weeks that had already been planned for, once we returned to the 100 plus degree weather of La Paz our refrigeration unit died. I lasted only a week or so before I high tailed up to California again with the unit in tow. Fast forward to the end of the summer, we pick up the unit near Oakland; Al flies down with the unit and installs it. Doesn’t sound too complicated…but wait. The unit dies 2 days later. I then delay my return to wait for a replacement unit. It arrives, I head to La Paz… but wait th e unit does not arrive with me, instead it tours Mexico first going to Mexico City, then to Mazatlan before it reached the customs office in La Paz. A few trips around town later the unit is released by customs and Al has it installed the next day. But wait… there’s more; t he unit overheats and dies again. So as any good engineer would do, Al takes both units apart, ca nnibalizes the old one for parts and a mere 2 days later we have ice cubes. YEAH!!!

You may be wondering what we did the rest of the time this summer. We traveled around in the states a bit. We went to Florida to see family and go to Jen's baby shower, went to Texas, Louisiana and we did some house sitting in Long Beach as well as 3 weeks in Lake Tahoe (and took care of Ronan- the big black dog). Lake Tahoe was just the ticket to get out of the heat. So that’s what I did this summer. Here’s some photos.

WE'RE ON A BOAT, WE'RE ON A BOAT, WE'RE ON A FIRE TRUCKING BOAT!!!
