No June Gloom here!

It's been awhile since my last posting and in reviewing what I wrote earlier I realized I didn't mention our trip to San Ignacio Bay. That's where the gray whales come to have their babies, nurture them, then take off for the sojourn north. The price for the Panga guy to pick us up at our boat was steeper than we had imagined and having neglected to ask first we bit the bullet and had him take us into the bay of whales anyway. We did get to see a few mothers and their calves ( I think that's what they are called). Each time I snapped a photo the delay of the digital made for several photos of the water with just a big shadow just below the surface. Oh well...I didn't get to touch one: I think we were actually bothering them. We would spot one, the panga would go to the spot then the whale would move. So it comes down to these crazy mammals chasing around another mammal who knows better. Anyway... it was a good day.

May 8 We celebrated my birthday in La Paz with friends from Orange Coast College sailing school, Vito and Dave. Al baked a cake, I can't remember the last time someone baked me a cake. We had happy hour drinks, a wonderful gift from the guys followed by dinner and cake with icing that the heat had made slide onto the plate along with the fresh strawberries. It didn't look great but it was absolutely yummy!

During May some more folks from the college were down and we met up with them at Isla Partida. We had been there for a few days when they showed up. Aboard their dingy we went over for dinner, met new folks and a great time was had by all. While anchored out we met Arnufo, a fisherman that came by our boat to ask for something to drink. Once we gave him a gallon of water and some soft drinks he was off only to meet up with him later. We had taken the dingy to the island and had been playing in the water; when we were leaving Arnufo came walking up the beach bearing gifts...the most beautiful shells, sort of like condos, because there are samll shells attached to the bigger shell. He invited us to sit and spend sometime with him at the fisherman shacks. What an unlikely sight, the two of us visiting this lone fisherman on a remote island in Baja California. Ain't life great! Both Al and I realize we wouldn't be having this experience if it weren't for the other person. As for me...how lucky can one girl be?

May 16 Karlene and Thadeus came for a 5 day visit; we had a great time, rented a car to pick them up and do some land exploring. We took them out on the boat to Balandra Beach; it was a perfect day. Thadeus taught me how to snorkel and once I got the hang of it I know I will enjoy doing it again. Thank you Thadeus! They thoroughly enjoyed their stay; complete with a private Palapa where they sipped on some exotic drinks (I suspect potent as well). They are great together and I look forward to future things. Thadeus made a photo CD of the visit which I have nostalgically viewed many times

Later in May - We leave for California and as fate would have it we met Bruce and Donna the day before we left. These two lovely folks are retired from Oregon or was it Washington, anyway they hail from Texas now and do their fair share of traveling. Bruce likes to surf the web for good deals and Donna knows how to pack in 10 minutes flat. They generously offered us a ride to the airport in Cabo, which made for a great day of transport. We hope to see them in the future. Again... I have to say...What a lucky girl I am to meet such great folks. Thank you Bruce and Donna!
Well.. this blog is really getting looooong so I will stop now. Next blog I will tell all about visit and meeting Thadeus folks (they're great I really like them).
Wait, wait...one more thing; I got tired of my long hair, seeing Kristina with shorter hair and Sandra telling me she preferred a bit shorter version and to top it off I caught a glimpse of Crystal Gale on the tellie, her mane was down past her knees and no new songs for the past 10 years ( think it's because of the hair). That sight did it for me next day I had about 10 inches cut off. Al by surprise cut his pony tail off as well, and once we got back to La Paz shaved off his beard. I think the photos will tell the story. We are cooler than ever even though it's over 90 degrees.
WE'RE ON A BOAT, WE'RE ON A BOAT, WE'RE ON A FIRE TRUCKING BOAT!!!
